Special Steels was established in 2002 with a solid entrepreneurial ethos and operate with flexibility and dynamism, offering our customers engineering steel grades, cut to length at competitive prices. We provide specialised steels and industry expertise to the engineering and manufacturing sectors in South Africa.
Special Steels are certified engineering steels used for mechanical and allied engineering purposes with a particular emphasis on low to high carbon and alloy steels.
We have grown substantially since inception, with significant stockholding and an efficient logistics capability.
We have established excellent relationships with international steel mills. We deal directly with these suppliers, with stringent quality control measures implemented and maintained. In addition, the company has a high standard of supply chain and stock management.
In 2014 we expanded our cutting capabilities by launching our Profiling Division which operates using top-of-the-line Oxyfuel, Plasma and Laser machines. Our specialised in-house drawing system can upload existing customer drawings (dxfs, dwg, tiff etc) or can be used to assist customers with creating new ones. These drawings are used to cut components to exacting and consistent dimensional tolerances.
We offer more than the buy-cut-sell process, believing in top quality and uncompromised customer service. Most of the steel we sell is to the engineering and mining sector, where time is a critical factor in completing finished products. Learn more about us. We strive to add value to our customers by ensuring that:

To be the dominant special steels merchant by consistently delivering value-added, quality services and products, which exceed clients’ expectations, bringing more to the ‘buy-cut-sell’ process than our competitors.
We succeed in this goal by providing the following:
We are committed to broad-based black economic empowerment and community development. We invest in skills development and training, offering tertiary educational bursaries to our employees and their children.
We believe that education is a fundamental human right. It is the foundation of a successful career, and it promotes individual freedom and empowerment. Bursaries assist with institution costs, textbooks and in some cases, computers and extra lessons.
